Recently, the Second Orthopedics Department of Zhongmu County People's Hospital successfully performed total hip arthroplasty for a patient with femoral head necrosis, supported by Sailner Digital Medical 3D printing technology.

The patient, Mr. Zhou, 51 years old, developed hip pain more than two months ago and sought care at Zhongmu County People's Hospital. CT examination revealed necrosis of the right femoral head with collapse and deformity, cystic change of the acetabulum, and bone defect. The joint was no longer usable, and hip replacement was required.

With consent from the patient and family, the Second Orthopedics expert team built a 1:1 3D model from the patient's CT 3D reconstruction data, printed the femoral head and acetabulum, assessed the degree of femoral head deformity and superior migration as well as the location and extent of acetabular bone defect, estimated the bone graft volume, completed preoperative planning, and developed a precise treatment plan.

Department Director Zhang Guoqiang and Associate Chief Physician Wei Feng performed the surgery. Intraoperatively, osteotomy was carried out per the preoperative plan; the acetabular bone defect was identified, the cystic area was curetted, and bone grafting was performed. The prosthesis was implanted according to the preoperative sizing. Postoperative imaging showed good positioning of the acetabular and femoral stem components, enabling a more precise procedure, better functional recovery, and longer joint longevity.
